At the end of last month we had the great pleasure of photographing Holley and her incredible family. I had gotten a call a few weeks earlier from the Without Regrets Foundation asking us if we would donate a portrait session to Holley and her family. Without Regrets Foundation provides gravely ill parents and their minor children with memorable family experiences. This special time together creates memories that will last forever.
Holley is a 41 year old mother of two sweet boys, ages 5 and 3. Holley has Stage IV breast cancer that has spread to her bones and brain. Her 5 year old asks “Why don’t we ever go to the beach?” Without Regrets was honored to be able to help this sweet mother and her family spend some relaxing time at the beach while visiting with some cousins that live in Florida. They went to Clearwater Beach where they were able to relax, take family photos on the beach, see Winter the Dolphin at the Aquarium and go on a Pirate Cruise.
This portrait session came at such an emotional time in my life, and I jumped at the chance to create some amazing images for this family. My own mother has been battling stage IV lung cancer for the last year, which I blogged about earlier in the year in relation to how portraits of your loved ones are so important.
I wanted to make this portrait extra special. My focus was on getting a handful of really amazing images that looked as if they came out of a magazine. I enlisted the help of fellow photographers Booray Perry, Thomas Gillman along with his son, and my wonderful and supportive better half, Carolyn. Together we broke out the really nice equipment that we don’t get to use all that often for beach portraits. Utilizing our Profoto Acute B light, and an 8’x8′ Lastolite Skylite donated for use by my dear friend Felix Kunze who is a famous editorial and portraiture photographer.
Together we made this families portraits a huge success. Here’s some great images!
Here’s also some great links to everyones websites that pitched in to make this a memorable experience for Holley and her family!
Here’s a couple crew shots! 🙂
